COACHES HEADQUARTERS

This page is designed to be a resource for you leading up to and during the event. Please be aware that some changes do occur in the weeks leading up to the event. All major changes will be communicated to all coaches via phone or email.

Last Update:

YOUR TRAVEL ITINERARY
Trip Sports maintains the itinerary for every participant on this website. When you submit your flight information to Trip Sports, all of the details are entered manually into this website. This includes the date, airline, departure city, arrival city, flight number, and times.

Thus, it is IMPORTANT that you carefully review the flight information in this system to make sure that it matches what you were given by the airline or your travel agent directly. Contact Trip Sports ASAP If you detect any errors with the information listed in your itinerary.

SCHEDULE CHANGES
The Trip Sports website does NOT automatically update flight information if the airline makes adjustments to flight departure or arrival times. Therefore, it is your responsibility to notify us of any major changes. This includes any time change of more than 15 minutes and any flight numbers that are changed.

ARRIVAL IN FORT LAUDERDALE
Upon your arrival in Fort Lauderdale (or Miami), a representative of Trip Sports will greet you in the baggage claim area. Once your group has its belongings, our staff member will direct you to the hotel shuttles that we are providing.

EMERGENCY INFORMATION
For emergency purposes, you will be able to reach a member of our staff at (419) 230-9524 throughout the duration of the event.

CHECKING IN
Trip Sports will be meeting teams in the lobby of the Hilton Lauderdale Marina to help facilitate the check-in process. Based on the rooming list you have provided us, we will have all the preliminary paperwork completed prior to your arrival.

NOTE: The telephones in all rooms will be disabled. If you would like your telephone enabled or would like to have charging privileges, the Hilton will require that you provide them with a credit card upon check-in. This will be used only for incidentals that you may accumulate during your stay (telephone charges, movie rentals, room service). They will NOT charge your credit card for the room rate itself. That is part of your package through Trip Sports. If you have any questions with this, please contact us.

HOTEL DECORUM
The Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina is a distinguished property in Fort Lauderdale. Accordingly, the hotel caters to business personnel and families. Therefore, decorum is very important to the Hilton and Trip Sports. This is especially true in the evening hours after 9pm, in regards to noise. We ask that you remind your team members to be considerate of others when the late hours arrive. As stated in our agreement, Trip Sports is not responsible for chaperoning your players. Coaches and team staff members are responsible if any problems arise.

Throughout our years of experience with group travel, the biggest problem we have experienced in hotels deal with the “throw-over” bars on the doors. These are the bars that you can throw over at night to, in essence, dead-bolt your door. Unfortunately, a lot of times these bars are used to prevent the door from shutting. In theory, this is okay. However, a lot of people will let the door slam on the bar, which results in loud noise. Please remind all your players that if they use the bar to prevent the door from shutting that they DO NOT allow the door to slam the bar. In addition, using the bars in this manner compromises the security of the room. Your cooperation with this matter is greatly appreciated.

GYM LOCATION
Practices are being held at St. Thomas University (Miami Gardens) or Barry University (Miami Shores). Your practice will be at the location/facility where you are playing your games. Please refer to the Game Schedule or your Trip Itinerary for this information. The approximate drive time to EITHER location via bus is 30 minutes.

PRACTICES
As you can imagine, we have a lot of practices scheduled throughout the duration of the Cruzin Classic. We will need everyone’s cooperation to keep things running smoothly. All practices are one-hour in length.

The time listed on your itinerary is the time you are to take the floor for your 60 minutes. Thus, we recommend you are dressed and ready to go when that time occurs.

When your 60 minutes is up, you will be asked to vacate the court and the next team will be allowed to take the floor.

GAME SCHEDULE / UNIFORMS
The complete schedule of games is provided on our Fan Website. You can access this by clicking on the User Icon at the top right. Then in the pop-out menu, select “Fan Website” and then “Game Schedule”. The schedule displays a visiting and home team for each contest. Please review the schedule carefully to be sure which color uniform you are wearing for each game. For any teams that are wearing the same color uniform for all games, we ask that you bring both sets of uniforms if possible. You can never tell when a situation might arise that a team may be unable to wear its appointed colors. If there are any issues with this, contact us ASAP.

GAME PROTOCOL
Below you will also find a section on our game protocol. Please note that your promptness is very important for the smooth operation of the event. Once the previous game is over and the floor cleared, a minimum of 20 minutes will be put on the clock and no game will start early.

SHOOTING AT HALFTIME OF GAME BEFORE YOUR GAME
If there is a game taking place before your game, your players are permitted to shoot at halftime of that game. We ask that teams take one half of the court like typical pre-game warm-ups.

TOWELS & ATHLETIC TRAINING Please be aware that towels will be available on a VERY limited basis. An athletic trainer will be on site throughout the duration of the Cruzin Classic to assist you and your players. However, it is requested that you bring your own kits if possible.

It is very important that you understand that the trainers we provide are there for emergency services and BASIC taping and wrapping, such as ankles. They are not able to provide heat treatments, stem treatments, etc.

Access to Dressing Rooms
You will be able to access your dressing room approximately 75 minutes prior to your game start. If the game(s) before you run late, the time may be pushed back.

Warm-up Time
If there is a game before you, at the completion of that game a minimum of 20 minutes will be put on the clock for warm-ups. If games are running behind schedule, that time may be reduced ONLY if both coaches agree to the reduction in warm-up time.

Starting Early
No game will start earlier than the scheduled time.

National Anthem
The general rule of thumb is that the National Anthem is played before the first game of each day.

Starting Lineups
All starting lineups will be announced. For games with the National Anthem, the anthem is played first, then the starting lineups.

Halftime
The standard 15 minute halftimes will be utilized.

Valuables in Dressing Rooms
Please do not leave any valuables in the dressing rooms. Trip Sports and the associated host facility cannot be held liable for loss or damage of any valuables left unattended in these rooms.

EVENT WEBSITE
As you may know, Trip Sports has an event website for the Cruzin Classic. The address is:

www.cruzinclassic.com

This website contains a “Game Schedule” page for all interested parties to view. Each game will have its own “Watch” link for people to access the live video stream (see below). This page will also be updated after games with results. Note: This watch link may not appear until a few days before the event.

DIGITAL GAME PROGRAM
In lieu of a traditional printed game program, Trip Sports has gone digital via its event website for the Cruzin Classic. The event site contains logos for all teams on the front page and also on the game schedule page. All logos and team names are linked to their respective team page on their school website. This allows you to see up-to-date information on schedule/results, roster, stats, and more.

STATISTICS
Trip Sports will be providing statistics for all games. For NCAA games, we will be using the NCAA stats platform. NAIA games will use Stat Crew software. For the NAIA games, Trip Sports will be requesting stat crew rosters from your Sports Information Director. Copies of box scores will be available at halftime and post-game.

GAME VIDEO
Our staff will be filming all contests. Thus, you do not need to bring video equipment. However, feel free to bring your own equipment if you so desire. Following your game, a download button will appear on your trip itinerary with the game time/information.

LIVE VIDEO STREAMING
Trip Sports will be attempting to LIVE VIDEO STREAM all games at the Cruzin Classic. Users can access the link through the schedule page for the Cruzin Classic on the event website (www.cruzinclassic.com). There is a per user fee of $8.95 per game for this service (subject to change).

POST-GAME STATISTICS & REPORTING
Following each contest, Trip Sports will be posting the results on the event website (www.cruzinclassic.com). Stat files will also be emailed to all SIDs.

As you know, you are provided breakfast on game days. You will be provided a voucher for each person in your official traveling party for each game day.

NOTE: If you have contracted for a different number of breakfast days, you will receive the corresponding amount of vouchers.

Upon your arrival into Fort Lauderdale, we will show you where the breakfast will be held. This information will also be updated in this website as the event approaches. In addition, the time of the breakfast will be listed for each day.

For days that you are not provided breakfast or for other meals, please review our “Area Dining” page on the Cruzin Classic website.

There are a lot of shopping options in the area of the hotel. The main street in front of the hotel is 17th Street. Going West (away from the water), you will find a handful of small retail strip-malls and one larger strip-mall.

Shopping highlights include two grocery stores, two pharmacies, USPS, FedEx, and much more.

Most importantly, Southport Coin Laundry is just down the street. The address is 1063 SE 17th St, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316. Depending on how much laundry you have, you may need to Uber to/from.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Team Travel Info

We recommend all teams and fans to fly into Fort Lauderdale International Airport (FLL). The reason is the Fort Lauderdale airport is only 4 miles from the hotel. FYI – Miami International Airport (MIA) is about 30 minutes from the hotel and West Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) is about 60 minutes from the hotel. Both of those time estimates are based on no traffic issues on the interstates. Traffic congestion or construction zones can easily happen and make those times a lot longer.

You can fly into a different airport (other than Fort Lauderdale). Trip Sports will pick you up for no additional cost at Miami International Airport or West Palm Beach International Airport. If you fly into an airport further away, you will need a long distance airport transfer. Trip Sports will be happy to arrange this for you, but additional cost will apply.

Trip Sports works with the hotel to get you into your rooms as soon as possible. However, please be advised that the normal check-in time starts at 4:00pm. If your room is not ready, Trip Sports will work with you to store your luggage while you explore the hotel and surrounding area until your room is ready.

Similar to early check-ins, Trip Sports will do its best to help you get a late check-out. However, please be aware that it is difficult to extend check-out times at the Hilton. The check-out time is published as 11:00am. In the event that you need to be out of your rooms well ahead of your scheduled shuttle departure, Trip Sports staff will work with you to secure luggage storage for your group. Contact one of our staff members at the hotel.

The hotel does NOT have coin laundry available on site. There is a laundromat located down the street – Southport Coin Laundry. The address is 1063 SE 17th St, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316.

Basketball Operations

This is ultimately up to you, but we do recommend you dress at the hotel because locker room availability is usually limited at an event of this size.

The locker rooms at St. Thomas University & Barry University do have showers. Please note that shower towels are not provided.

If your players decide to shower after the game, we ask that everyone move as quickly as possible. This is because we may have another upcoming game that has teams that need your locker room. In addition, we need to keep the ground transportation (buses) moving on schedule. We appreciate your cooperating with this.

This is a great question and we understand your concern with the question. This answer can vary from year to year and ultimately depends on the facility where your games will take place. When we play at a local college or university, we typically utilize their basketballs. On occasion, Trip Sports will provide its own basketballs, which are currently Wilson Solutions.

Our ticket prices are $10 per person, with 12 and under free.

No. Free admission is provided to all games for all participants of the event. This includes players, coaches, staff members, and anyone else listed on your official travel list.

Unfortunately, the simple answer to this is no. However, if you have any administration in attendance, they are not charged admission. This refers to Athletic Directors, Vice-Presidents, Presidents, etc. Anyone traveling on your official travel list with Trip Sports is also provided admission at no charge.

Parking is free at St. Thomas University.

Be aware that parking at Barry University may involve a fee.
